Quilts Galore.

I feel a little like I'm jumping on the Quilt bandwagon (I knew Q was going to be a challenge) and I'm going to show you what my Mom makes.

My Mom has been making quilts for years. I don't remember when/why she started, but she has some skills. And one of those skills is having tons of patience when sewing. Because quilting is not a fast process.

I do not have that skill. I need more "instant gratification" from my work.

Which is why the quilt I was making, is still in squares, in a bin since 2006. I take it out and look at it every now and then, but that's about as far as I go.

My Mom started making quilts for baby showers. Then she decided we needed some for the holidays. Every holiday. And some days in between the holidays.

My house has approximately, 10 quilts in it right now.

This is not a complaint. In fact, I'm asking her why I don't have 20.

Her quilts are AMAZING. I've been trying to get her to sell them, but I'm thinking I steal them before that can happen...I should probably calm down a little.

I took a few pictures of the ones I could get my hands on for this blog. I store my holiday ones so they stay nice. I have a Christmas one (OMG, it's stunning and even the fabric has sparkles in it) and a Halloween one (it has an owl. The cutest owl you've ever seen).

This was supposed to be Evan's quilt, but she made him two, so I stole it.
It sits on the back of an old pew I have.

I decorate my home with stars, so she made me a quilt to match my house.

This is Morgans quilt.
It has Fairies on it. It's so girly.
Seriously, adorable.

I tried to capture the sparkly fabric, but our lighting is not great.

Declans quilt.
So full of "boy".
Even he couldn't keep his hands off of it.
Though I told him repeatedly to not touch the quilt.
Dirty kids.

When I was pregnant with Evan, I had the dumb idea to decorate a nursery.
I found this fabric and used it all over.
Then I sent my Mom a few yards so she could make it into a quilt.
This is what the backing looks like.

Here's the front.
This has to be my favorite.
I love the monsters.
So darn cute!

She made this.
With her hands.
Not a wand...though I'm sure she wishes she had one.

Now, help me convince my Mom that she needs to sell these!
Or make more and give them all to me...
Whatever you think is better.

I am stocking up on quilts so I can be prepared for our never-ending-winter.
We just had a snowstorm yesterday.
It needs to stop now.
I found this image on Facebook and it's perfect for today:

Merry Christmas?

  2. Great quilts! So cute. I can beat you at quilt procrastination, though. I started one when my daughter was 1 year old, and I still have the pieces in a box - all handsewn. She is going to be 30 in May, and has her own 20 month old now. Maybe I should finish it. Maybe I should finish his that I started last year. Maybe I should just send them to your mother to finish!

    1. That's funny! My Mom had the same thing. The quilt she had started when I was a baby was green, orange and yellow. Very retro and she just finished it. =) Thanks for that =).

  3. Those are truly amazing. I don't know how much time she puts into them, but the love in there is evident. The monster one is... wow well really there is some serious technical skill in all of them, but the little monsters she had-mad for the front. Wow.

  5. oh my gosh! These are stunning! I quilt a bit, but nothing like these. She should def try to sell them. I know quilts take a lot of time, and maybe it would not be worth it to her, but they sure are beautiful. I'm popping in from the a-z. You have a cute blog! Love the name Declan, I have a grand nephew with that name. You have your hands full with twins AND and 3rd child. Kudos to you! Being home w/ your children is so important! New follower here. :-)

  6. Hello! These are lovely, your mum is very talented and she should definitely try and sell them, or give them all to you and you sell them on commission maybe...I would never have the patience to make something like that.

  8. They're gorgeous! Your Mum really does need to sell them! I guess maybe too much love goes into them so she maybe doesn't want to!? x

    1. I think part of the problem is that I like them all and keep stealing them. She might have half a chance if I stayed away for a bit. =)

  9. I’m going to echo everyone else here, you mom is very talented. Those quilts are so beautiful. I am a knitter. As Hannah said, there is a lot of love that goes into hand crafted treasures. Perhaps that is enough payment for her.

  11. Your mom is amazing! My mother in law makes quilts too. She's made each kid (all five Grandkids) a "regular" quilt, even a baby quilt, then she made them each an "eye spy" quilt and put their names on them. She's amazing and I'm in awe of her talent and patience. I'm like you. I better see results, or I'm out. I like photography, knitting to some extent, that kind of stuff.

I really hope she shares her talent with the world. She's fabulous and that monster quilt, OMG!! SO adorable!

  12. Oh. And she's made each of us kids a personalized quilt for Christmas one year, a raggy type for my sister in law and I once, and both of those quilts are in my bed, with me all the time. I even travel with them. I can't leave them behind, but sometimes I have to pick just one. It's always a tough choice. The kids sleep with theirs all the time and often take them on sleepovers too. They are well loved and used treasures. I LOVE handmade gifts!

    1. Totally with you on that. The gift of handmade presents is the best one because you know how much effort went into making that just right.

  13. Beautiful quilts! The only quilts I have made were simply two sheets around batting and tied with yarn, not the fancy, wonderful quilts your mom makes. I hear you on the weather. Utah is still getting snow, at least it's not sticking.

I LOVE comments...except bad ones. You can keep the bad ones. Or maybe disguise them as nice ones. I know people that are really good at that.
