Love

Today is for Love. My husband and I are in Minneapolis at The Grand Hotel celebrating our 9 year anniversary. Our actual anniversary isn't until the 17th. So I guess, almost 9 year anniversary.

It's been fun so far. And very, very, very relaxing. I haven't had to yell once. Yet.

My husband and I have been through a lot together during our marriage.

He's my best friend and I couldn't imagine my life without him in it. We spend lots of time making each other laugh, supporting each other through all the stuff that life decides to toss our way and raising our 3 children together.

I wouldn't want to do this with any other person. I also don't think another person would put up with all my crap.

A weekend in a hotel is exactly what we needed to just savor time together and time without our children.

It's already been a blast. Here's some of our Friday night for your enjoyment:

1.
We were at a crosswalk, waiting for the light to change so we could cross the street.
My husband reaches over to push the button for the light to change.
Then the button starts talking.
Because it's not a light changing button.
It's a bus schedule button.
Oops.
We are so not meant to be in the city.

Welcome to the city.
Where it's blatantly obvious that we have no idea what we're doing.

2.
We finally found a place to eat, that was safely located inside the hotel.
(We wandered around for a good 20 minutes, got lost in the skyways, and decided to just eat here instead.)
My husband picked the sushi for dinner and I stuck with chicken.
While he was eating, I asked about the thin, white strips he was eating off his plate.
"What is that?"
"It's ginger...want to try it?"
"Does it taste like gingerbread?"
"No... It's pickled ginger and it's good. Taste some."
"Not happening. I don't trust your taste buds. I think they lie."

3.
Jalon asked me how my chicken tasted.
I replied, "Delicious! The pieces that are near the skin are so tasty."
"Why aren't you eating the skin?"
"Gross, I don't like the idea of eating flesh."
"Because eating the insides of the chicken is perfectly normal."
"Geez...thanks for going there tonight."

4.
Then, because our conversations just got better and better through the night:
Me: "Try my sparkling water once. It's good."
Jalon: "Bleh. It's warm. Might be better cold."
Me: "Yeah, just like bodies."
Not quite sure why I felt the need to go there.
I guess because we were in public, at a nice restaurant.
I had to embarrass him somehow.

We didn't eat dinner until 7:30 last night.

Normally, we are done eating by 5 p.m., kids bathed and in jammies by 6, dishes done and dessert served by 7 and bedtime by 8.

I felt like an adult. I even showered.

That's right...I washed. Then I spent TONS of time doing my hair, makeup and just dancing to music that was playing on my cellphone while I cleaned myself up.

I took a selfie.
How embarrassing...
I just wanted to show you my "before" picture.
This is the mom version of me.
Sweatshirt. Jeans with ripped out knees. Hair, unwashed and unkempt.
Hot mess.

My "after".
I'm CLEAN!
(Don't mind my awkward pose...I'm not sure how to stand when taking my own picture.)
And I smell like a woman and not the food I made that day.
I didn't stay like this for long.
We went out to eat and that was it.
Time for my sweats and giant t-shirt.
I'm lazy and ready to relax.

Have a good weekend!
I'm going to sleep and sleep some more.

  2. Happy Anniversary! Sounds like you guys are having a great time.

You really should have tried the ginger. It's refreshing! And be glad he didn't offer you the wasabi instead.

I LOVE comments...except bad ones. You can keep the bad ones. Or maybe disguise them as nice ones. I know people that are really good at that.
