Count your Blessings

Today is C. I've decided to count my blessings.

There are days when I feel down or slightly depressed and it gets tough to see the good hiding in a day. But it's there. You might just have grab a shovel to dig a little.

I've decided to get all my blessings down on here, so when I'm feeling sad, I can click on this post and remember that things aren't ever as bad as they might seem.

It makes me feel grateful for what God has provided in our lives. Sometimes we need to just remember to be thankful for today and what we have rather than be sad about what we don't know or don't have.

And I'm going to count my blessings, just so when I'm feeling down again, I know where I can go:

1. Our health. We are very blessed to be pretty healthy here. I thank God every day for that. We don't spend too many days sick or in a hospital. That makes me a very happy and very thankful mommy.

2. Our home. We've struggled with houses before and it makes me appreciate our house even more because of it. And that we don't have to do a lot of fix-its around here. Our home is holding up nicely. Except for the spiders. I would be OK if there were no spiders. The only thing about spring that can be annoying, all the spiders that decide it's finally warm enough to venture out and have babies on my walls. Nope, nope-ity, nope. (Spell check tried to tell me that nope-ity isn't a word. Whatever spell check, I do what I want.)

3. Food in our bellies. Once again, when you can't always afford groceries, it makes you appreciate the times you can sit down to dinner even more. Even if it's just a dinner of cereal again because I've burned dinner the second time this week.

4. My husband. Who happens to also be my hero. Over and over again, he saves me from the kids when I need it, spiders and other scary bugs and helps out around here. He is also my support system, as I go through my anxiety struggles, and he works his butt off to earn a paycheck so that I can stay at home to provide love and support to our kids. And to wash his socks.

5. My kids. They bring me so much joy and happiness, even when I'm at my wits end over the constant destruction they cause. They are healthy, strong and full of so much love. Even if they tear apart their toys or come inside after playing in the mud and I have to wash everything AGAIN, they have taught me patience and taught me how to love with my whole heart.

6. My family. I have parents and in-laws that live close and offer so much support. My whole family is just awesome.

7. Our Church. It's taken us a long time to find a church family that we felt comfortable with, but we are home now and it's wonderful! Every Sunday is like visiting family. There is nothing better than finding a great church like that. And because of them, I've been finding strength in my faith more.

8. Books and the authors I love that keep pumping out those good reads. I love to read. And they have been inspirational to this girl that would like to find her own path in the writing world someday.

9. God. We have God as the head of our family. We are Christians and our faith is important to us. Life is a struggle, always, but without God, there is no life.

10. Living in Minnesota. It was hard for my husband to make the move up here. I'm grateful to him for his sacrifice because it would be harder for me to live any where else. I love this state, I love my 4 seasons, I love the green, all the water and our State Fair. (Who doesn't like deep fried Oreos?) I've been to other states. There's nothing quite like here.

11. My blog. Writing has become an outlet for everything that rattles around in my head. Some days, my writing is probably complete chaos and may only make sense in my head. But, for those of you that still come back and read this, thank you. Thank you for coming back. You are awesome!

This was very enjoyable to write and it made me look a little deeper into my days and appreciate the small tiny things that pop up that make me smile.

  1. What a nice reflection. This is one of those exercises that I think we'd all benefit from every once in a while. :)

    1. Thanks! It's sometimes hard to find the good, when I'm filled with anxiety over the bad, but I'm working through it all.

  2. I think it is so important to remember the blessings we have in our lives. It's so easy to focus on the bad. Thanks for cheering me up on a day where I'm lacking #1 because I'm sick.

  3. Great choice for C! It's so easy to take blessings for granted but I think this is something we all need to remember to do from time to time. :)

    1. Thank you! It was nice and helps me be thankful more often rather than feeling sad about the lack of something I feel we "need" in our lives.

  4. What a nice list! It will be good to keep close and reflect upon from time to time. My husband and I lived in Hokah, MN for 10 years. Loved it there, but came back to Maine for family.

    1. We've always wanted to visit Maine! It sounds beautiful up there. That's why we came to Minnesota, too hard being away from family. Thanks for stopping by!

  5. We all need to take time to count our blessings... and far too often we wait til we are in a really challenging spot to do that! It seems far more likely to remember these gifts & blessings when we are enjoying them rather than being tried by something! Best of luck on the A to Z challenge... it takes time but I am enjoying mine too! (blog is http://janiceperson.com )

    1. I agree, I usually end up waiting until I'm feeling down to try to remember all the good. Much harder to do then! Thanks for stopping by and good luck to you too!

    1. Bleh, sorry about the spiders! I almost look around and wonder if I wouldn't be better off just burning down this house and starting all over again.

I LOVE comments...except bad ones. You can keep the bad ones. Or maybe disguise them as nice ones. I know people that are really good at that.
